Our vision
The New Husband is our vision of a feature film documentary that will set the grounds for an important conversation around gender roles in our homes.
The topic is vast, there are no other films or books about it and there are many angles to cover. So our biggest challenge (and goal) is to create a comprehensive overview of the topic: We want to speak to people who live in these scenarios, people who studied it, who suffered, benefitted or learned from living in a truly equal relationship. We want to involve all races, social status and regions of the US.
We want this film to be widely seen and set the grounds for many conversations we need to have to achieve a better gender-balanced home.

We are currently starting the Research and Development phase. In the scope of a movie production this is a crucial step that defines in many ways how good the movie can turn out and how far it can reach. It's the stage we can take the time to define the movie at its core.
These are the main goals for this phase:
Search for subjects: maybe the biggest challenge will involve a lot of research and phone calls. We will start the process of finding unique stories that could be on screen to carry our main message. We then do a pre-interview to start to get more personal and really make sure they are the right fit.
Building the story: This is the most complicated and delicate job of the whole film. It's where we design How are we going to tell this story. We look at all the research we've done and at all our subjects and create a storyline. A thread that guides the viewer, a line of thought that builds an argument with a beginning, middle and a powerful end. A lot of writing and re writing and re re writing goes into this phase.
Planning the logistics: In this stage as well is where we start to understand exactly what it will take to execute the ideas we created. We develop a structured timeline and a itemized budget. After this is done we know exactly how much it will cost to make, finish and distribute the film as well as what else we need to make it happen.
Teaser: We normally also have by the end of this phase a Teaser for the film.. A 2 to 5 minutes piece that uses the pre interviews and any other footage we have to just give investors a taste of what we are trying to do.
We are focused on developing the film fairly fast. This is a hot topic and we want this film to be a relevant source of change in our current scenario. Release is aimed for the end of 2019.
Why do we need your donation
This stage of Research and Development is the first and maybe hardest test a film project goes through to come to life. At this stage is too early for distributors and investors to put money into a project so the creators depend on the support from people that really care about the cause and are generous supporters of the idea.
These are rarely investments with profitable intentions but they can be. Normally these are real supporters of the film that get special credits as a reward for their trust and vision.

How much will it cost
Here I want to speak in my own words. I'm Ivan Rodrigues and you may have seen some of the videos I've posted here. I'm very very serious about the transparency of these donations and our costs. I take donations as trust, deposited in the film and most importantly in my work. I make a commitment to using this money in a responsible way to achieve the best film possible.
The estimated budget for this stage is broken down below. We need $ 50,000 to make this stage happen with the quality we want and on time.

How to donate
We are being represented by a fiscal Sponsor called Fractured Atlas. They are one of the biggest art fiscal sponsors in the US and they have extensive information on how to donate. Donations can be made via credit card online with no fee, via check or even wire transfers. The links are all below. Credit Card donations have a limit of $ 20,000 per transaction.
All donors who make contributions will receive a donation receipt to be used for tax purposes. If you donated by credit card, you will be emailed a receipt immediately after making the contribution.
How to donate
The New Husband is a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization. Contributions for the charitable purposes of The New Husband documentary must be made payable to “Fractured Atlas” only and are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
